Tendons are the fibrous tissues which connect our skeletal system to our muscles, permitting us to move our bodies. When a tendon becomes inflamed, this condition is known as tendonitis. Depending on the tendon affected, the condition may be known by different names; for instance, an inflamed knee or elbow may be called jumper's knee or tennis elbow.

Tendonitis symptoms typically happen as the result of a repetitive strain injury. Repetitive motion can gradually lead to small tears being made in the tendon. The pain resulting from the condition can range from mild to severe, depending on the seriousness of the injury and how long the tendon has been inflamed since continuing to strain the tendon worsens the condition. You can often prevent the condition from progressing to a severe injury by using splints or wraps to restrict motion and heat, cold and anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the swelling.

To prevent permanent damage, you have to be able to identify tendonitis symptoms and seek treatment before the condition progresses. The following are the most common symptoms of tendonitis.

Pain

Swelling

Affected area can feel warm to the touch

* Restricted movement especially first thing in the morning or late in the evening

Stiffness

* Burning sensation

Area may painful when touched

How To Prevent Tendonitis Symptoms

Prevention is always the best treatment with any kind of injury. While you don't actually have to give up sports or other physical activities, you will have to do these things with caution.

Failing to warm up before and cool down after exercising is one thing which can lead to tendonitis. Warm up by stretching before a workout; this makes your muscles and tendons flexible. Cool down after you exercise by stretching as well.

Many people suffer tendonitis symptoms because of everyday stress on the joints. This happens when you are severely overweight and can cause significant knee and ankle problems. The best way to combat this is by losing as much excess weight as possible.

Poor posture can also result in tendonitis symptoms. Ergonomics are important, no matter whether it has to do with how you sit at the office or your form while playing sports. Specially designed ergonomic furniture can help you to maintain good posture while you work.

During exercise or while playing your favorite sport you should be aware of your body positioning as well. Over extending your joints is a perfect way to tear the tendons and cause yourself significant pain. If you are just starting out in a sport such as tennis or golf, try to get formal instruction about proper form to prevent tendonitis symptoms from occurring.

Many different methods exist to prevent and treat this condition. You can use splints or wraps to immobilize the affected area so it can heal and reduce inflammation with heat or cold therapy. Whenever you experience pain, swelling or a burning sensation while you're engaged in exercise or other physical activity you should stop the activity at once and get treatment.
