Determining If Your House Has Termites

We are all at risk for termites, even though Nobody wants to have them. Termites do not discriminate; they invade any house. Some believe a termite invasion is just a nuisance, but termites can do much more damage than you can think. Termites are important in the circle of life, but they shouldn't be invading our homes. If you do not discover them before they begin doing big damage, they can destroy your entire house.

It is rather unfortunate that homeowners don't even know they have termites, not until a lot of damage has been done. Knowing at least the early signs of termite attacks can help save your home before the problem starts or aggravates. Termites can do a lot of harm to an area in a small time period. Hence, knowing what to look for can most likely help you stop termites before they can cause insurmountable harm.

You should know that not all termite attacks can be seen by the untrained eye. A little more time & a more trained eye is required in order to find these wood eating creatures. Your furniture, floors, walls & other areas of the home that is made of wood are some of the usual places they attack. Another tip to help determine termite infestation is checking in mud holes & piles of feces.

Check areas where termites usually would go, to see if there are any signs of infestation at all. Check your garden and lawn area; dead leaves, tree stumps & mud holes in the soil. Also check if your walls have cracks or spaces, 'cause they could be a termite's entranceway into your walls. You should also check basement walls, moldings, window sills and doorframes.

If any show signs of feeding activity, you should call a professional pest control company or exterminator. If you have the proper equipment, you can even do it yourself. The main idea here is to discover the problem before serious troubles arise.

Why must you take the effort of applying pest control measures for your household? Although it might not have crossed your mind right now, someday in the future you may put your house up for sale. No matter how attractive your house is from the outside, real estate agents and buyers would avoid it if they see marks of pest infestations. For example, termite colonies discovered in the foundation of your house are huge hindrances for potential buyers. Furthermore, lending institutions can be very strict in approving loan applications, especially if you will use your residence as collateral; you may find your application denied if the bank people discovered pest infestations in your household when they come over for ocular evaluation. Thus, although the cost to hire a professional pest control company to eradicate pest infestations in your house may be steep, consider it a good investment for the future resale value of your home.
